• Key Make Up Artist: They are in charge of the make up department. They actually design the make up for each actor/actress and assign individual make up artists to apply it.
• Make Up Artist: These are the individuals who actually apply the make up to the actor.
• Make Up Assistant: They help with some of the lesser tasks like body make up and organization.
• Make Up Effects Artist: They design and create special make up effects using prosthetics, latex and animatronics.

Rule of Thirds, Diagonal Lines, and Vectors

This picture I took in Heidelberg, Germany fulfills the rule of thirds, Diagonal lines and vectors.

The focus of this picture is the bridge. Its diagonal line is also a vector, it draws the viewer from the closer end of the village across the bridge to the other side. The horizontal lines are apparent in regard to the trees along the top of the picture and the parallel line of the river. The rule of thirds is used because the image is not centered. The bridge starts at the left and moves towards the center.

Evaluation

First glance you may think this is a good design because it makes you LOOK! The Nike Swoosh stands out, which is good because that is the product that is being sold. However what does a naked women holding this show represent? To me nothing more than the concept that sex sells. Which is true, however in the second add I posted for Nike, I found a much more intriguing advertisement which causes me to want to go out and buy this product.

This now is still a women, yet she represents more than just a sexy creature, she is strong, driven, pushing herself to the limits. And although the shoes are not the first thing the consumer may see, Nike is such a recognizable brand that I think the action in the photo is what the focus is supposed to be. There is still contrast with the bright neon colored shoes, and with the motion of her body there is no way the viewer could be mislead with what the product is.

Contrast, Harmony, and Balance

I chose this image to represent Contrast, Balance, and Harmony. The first thing you notice when looking at the image is the Arch, undoubtedly. However as tall and as large as this man made structure is, the parallel of the sky behind, above and below it is just as compelling. The contrast it creates is due to the massive amount of architecture displayed in the image, but yet also the undeniable greatness of the sky. The balance is also visually apparent because of how much space is being divided between the two objects. And the harmony created un this photo is of course, the black, white and shades of gray dispersed throughout. Harmony is also established just n the way the lens of the camera is pointing up towards the top of the arch, and the sky. It creates a line for the viewer to follow.

COMM3560 Visceral Response: Alyson

Don't worry I have already been told that I have a pretty lame dream car… But I really don't care. I am obsessed with 2012 Infinity FX35! They are so sweet, smooth and sexy. The law of continuity is what stands out the most to me about this beautiful piece of art. Similarly to what Professor Young said about the hip line of the Spider, I see this as a continuum of curves. After test driving one I was sold on how sleek the inside was. From the thud of the doors, to the click of the blinker it all seemed to work so well together to give me that feeling of beauty deep inside me.
Similarity is displayed by the curves in this vehicle The wheel wells, windows, hood, roof etc. Although the headlights are not round, the shape creates a line which cause the eye to follow them back as if to display speed. Without seeing the rear view, we can feel the closure created by the way the car is parked. It is a whole and complete object that stands for luxury, safety, and stability.
To take this theory one step further, a car is comprised of metal, wheels, glass, etc. Unless these parts are correctly assembled and adjusted to work together, the individual parts are nothing more than scrap, but combined they have created this completely desirable car to me the consumer.

The characters, Adam & Emma came to a decision that they were going to begin a relationship, one in which the outcome was simply to meet there physical needs. In our culture, I would assume that Adam would be the one who is perceiving this relationship to be purely physical with no intention of creating an emotional tie to Emma. The reason I mention this is simply because that is what seems to be more common. However in this particular clip, it is Emma who is searching for the reward of having a simple, non committed relationship. I think because people can create their own idea of what a conversations outcome is, they don't feel the need to express what they mean in further detail because we feel that their is this unspoken common knowledge between one another. How this relates to our discussion in class is that different cultures I think have these preconceived ideas about something, or a way that things are done which is not the same as another cultures idea of it.

Mozilla Leads the Way on Do Not Track

Commentary by Rainey Reitman:

Earlier today, Mozilla announced plans to incorporate a Do Not Track feature into their next browser release, Firefox 4.1. Google also announced a new privacy extension today, but we believe that Mozilla is now taking a clear lead and building a practical way forward for people who want privacy when they browse the web.

After reading this article, it makes me wonder if we will actually have complete privacy with this new feature. I have a feeling this will just be the next big thing to download, sort of like an application.

As of now, consumers who take steps to delete their cookies or use private browsing mode remain unable to prevent third parties from observing their clickstreams. So I wonder how effective it will be?!?!

The Bachelor

I am watching The Bachelor right now and it just went to commercial break. The bachelor, Brad is about to make his decision at the rose ceremony. He had a few one on one times with some of the girls. I never really watch this show, but it was surprising to see how different the girls would act around him. They would especially act different when no one else was around. Many of the girls acted very shy and nervous when they were speaking to him in private. However, there was this one girl who took him in a room made him sit down and told him not to speak. She sat on his lap and kissed him and said "Now let's get rid of some girls". I'm watching it now that it is back on, and she was the girl he picked first to give a rose to. So from my observation I guess you could say he likes that type of intense communication style.

I believe it is an old t.v show that this link takes you. The video clip displays how mis communication can be caused by language barriers. The lady who was checking into her hotel room was speaking to the bell hop in a language he had not mastered. Along with her accent, it quickly became evident that the conversation was getting no where fast. Although this clip was posted for the humor aspect of it, I found it fitting as a simple example as how messages can be interpreted incorrectly.

50 New Words...

An article by Betsy Towner in AARP, explains that there is over 50 new words/ expressions being printed in the world's top English dictionaries. I happened to find this interesting.

-Automagically: adv. Automatically in a way that seems magical.

-Bromance: (just noting, the internet does not agree this is a real word.. because it is underlined in red right now.) noun. Close platonic male friendship.

-Webisode: noun. Episode or short film made for viewing online.

-Friend: To add to a list of personal associates on a website.

-Tweet: noun. Posting made on the social networking site Twitter.

-Buzzkill: Person or thing that has a depressing effect.

There are so many more. It is quite funny.

The Spy in Your Hand

According to Sid Kirchheimer, in an article called "Scam Proof Your Life" in AARP, there is supposedly an application software that can be programmed into your phone that sends a message to the spy indicating all activity. The phone can even be turned into a surreptitious microphone.

I find this type of technology compelling yet scary at the same time. I read that is can be used by controlling parents, suspicious spouses, or even scam artists. It seems we have become far too technologically dependent and this can lead to such situations as our information becoming accessible to scammers.

America the Beautiful

Essayist Dinesh D'Souza, believes the reason we are hated by so many is because we're so good. D'Sounza point is hard to argue with, seeing as how you witness this in everyday life. Sometimes when someone is overly perfect, it's irritating. I think D' Sounza makes a good point when he talks about America's "exceptionalism & universalism." I as well as many Americans are grateful for being able to live in the U.S. We have wonderful opportunity's. When D'Sounza talks about how our country is built on individuals shaping their own lives and making our own destiny's, this is a strong statement and is true. However i think that in other countries this just may not be as valued to individuals. Some people don't like to make their own decisions, and it is easier for them to be a follower as oppose to their own leader of their destiny.
When D'Sounza talks about us learning to appreciate our differences, this could not be anymore true. I think that is a huge aspect of life that needs o be worked on by many people, politically, religiously, physically, and mentally. Everyone is so different, looks different, raised different, believes different. Their is no right or wrong and it will forever be an ongoing debate.
